Accountable to You

PACE is committed to restoring accountability at City Hall and ensuring that Council decisions reflect the priorities of the people they serve. The most striking failure of accountability has been the blanket rezoning bylaw—pushed through hastily to secure federal grant funding, despite widespread objections, concerns, and appeals from citizens. PACE councillors will move to repeal the existing bylaw and rebuild public trust.

To strengthen accountability and reconnect Council with the community, PACE will:

  • Adopt a community-first approach to development, ensuring growth is guided by the needs and feedback of residents rather than abstract planning theories or top-down agendas.
  • Restructure the public engagement process so community input is genuinely valued, documented, and meaningfully incorporated into city planning and policy decisions.
  • Improve transparency and communication through regular town halls, clear and accessible digital and print updates, councillor hotlines, and public reporting on citizen inquiries and 311 calls.
  • Support the independence of community leagues as authentic advocates for their neighbourhoods, operating at arm’s length from City Hall.
  • Establish ward associations to maintain a consistent, two-way connection between councillors and the residents they represent.

By putting citizens back at the centre of decision-making, PACE will ensure Edmonton’s future is shaped by the people who call it home.
